The second part interrogates the limits of SRI in making a difference. It questions the potential of SRI to create change but also proposes ways to increase societal impacts of SRI. The last section of the volume addresses the boarder issues of values and governance and shows how they are central in the SRI discussion. The book takes a critical but constructive stance on SRI with the objective of contributing to the capacity and ability of SRI to make a difference. Little research has been undertaken on the societal impacts of SRI. With this book we contribute to this debate, pushing the boundaries of SRI even further.

A time of political and social unrest in England, this period produced some of the greatest poetry in English. This volume includes the major poets―John Donne, Ben Jonson, George Herbert, John Milton, and Andrew Marvell―the major women writers of the era―Aemilia Lanyer, Mary Wroth, Anne Bradstreet, Margaret Cavendish, and Katherine Philips―and nineteen other poets essential to an understanding of English literature in the seventeenth century. The poems are accompanied by headnotes and explanatory annotations. "Criticism" is divided into two sections. The first, "Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Criticism," includes commentary by contemporary poets and biographers, among them Ben Jonson, John Dryden, and Samuel Johnson. The second, "Recent Criticism," brings together twenty critical examinations of the period and its poets, including essays by T. S. Eliot, Janel Mueller, Aldous Huxley, W. H. Auden, Joseph Summers, Laurence Babb, Gerald Hammond, Eavan Boland, Leah Marcus, and William Kerrigan. A Selected Biography is also included.

I have to admit I ordered this book for a class but I have found myself reading much of the content not assigned. The poetry of the time is different than what I am used to. It is very tied into the indecision of the British royals about the state religion.

The Last Shaman is a rich transformative story created by a master of myth, of magic and of the subtle power of shamanic learning. In it William creates a magical realm that seems to contain everything the individual reader needs to guide their own steps, within the form of its story.

I was held fast by the energy and action of the plot, moved by the characters and their stories of growth and breakthrough, and brought to tears by the ending. There is so much to learn in this book. William knows what it means to choose growth and a life led by the principles of truth, love and service. He has guided thousands of people on this journey and lives it authentically himself. William's deep understanding of the pitfalls and challenges involved in choosing to be a creator, as well as the magical breakthroughs and breath-taking potential of living from our true selves is served to us here in a compelling, vivid, inspiring and above all practically valuable read.

The Last Shaman truly works to the shamanic principles of its title. "Shamanism...is about a journey to another realm, where the forces at play in the dimension can be harmonized to create a corresponding harmony in our world" (The Last Shaman). My experience of reading the book was that of diving into a metaphorical illustration of my own life, and of the ways I could work through and transform some of the areas in which I was feeling stuck. Everyone I have spoken to so far who has read it has had a similar experience. Within the story I received insight after insight into what I was playing out, and was reminded of the simple tools available to me to challenge and shift that experience to align with what the truth of what my heart would love.

So many layers,

Ok, so it has taken me three readings of The Last Shaman and another reading of William's first book The Magician's Way to finally write this review. The main reason for the delay is the depth of this book. Everytime I read the book I unwrap a few more layers to the onion. And with the unwrapping, understand a little more of the message and myself. Now the message and meanings for me will be different to what they are for you. And that is part of the beauty of this book. Every person can take what they need from it, I know this because a friend of mine has also purchased a copy and we have had some interesting discussions brought about by this book. So grab a copy now and start changing your life for the better.

An exciting and fitting sequel to The Magicians Way, next steps and poignant reminders for fans of Williams first book also an excellent read for first timers and budding alchemists. A magnificent read i couldn't put it down.

The Problems of Three Little People Amounting to a Hill of Beans...

Justine was published at a fortuitous time, in early 1957 just as the Suez Crisis was putting Egypt into headlines around the world. That country, or more precisely, the city of Alexandria, is one of the main "characters" of Justine and indeed of the four-pack of books that it initiated, The Alexandria Quartet. Indeed, in addition to the main story of the novel, I found the picture it presented of Alexandria's multicultural society quite fascinating on its own.

With The Alexandria Quartet, Lawrence Durrell, a good buddy of Henry Miller but lacking the latter's obsessive narcissism, penned what the Modern Library listed as one of the 100 Best English Language Novels of the 20th Century. I can't dispute that.

At heart it's a story of a romantic triangle, with the unnamed first-person narrator in love with Justine, the wife of good friend Nessim while two-timing his own live-in lover Melissa, who is suffering from tuberculosis. Melissa comes off as the most sympathetic of the major characters, if only because she gets relatively little face time in the narrative.

Nessim is a passive beta male in the hands of his flighty wife, to whom he seems to extend a free hand to indulge herself with lovers in the hope that she'll ultimately come to love him as a result. This rarely works, but some guys never learn.

The narrator bumbles into an affair with Justine and become obsessed with her, to the point of digging up her former husband's autobiographical novel about his relationship with Justine and memorizing frightfully large pieces of it. Justine herself comes off as a rather immature woman who may have been traumatized by an early rape (the narrative is unclear) but she certainly has no qualms about using people.

The style is not linear but impressionistic, with the narrator jumping around in the timeline. This has probably warned off a few readers but, honestly, I didn't think it was all that hard to follow. There are relatively few significant characters in addition to the Big Four, so if you pay attention and have a modicum of short term memory you should be fine.

The story is interesting on its own, as are the characters and the setting, and Durrell's style enhances rather than detracts front he pleasure of reading it. I'm very much looking forward to reading the other three books of the Alexandria Quartet.

This book is not as advertised. It is NOT the Alexandria Quartet but ONLY one of the books (Mountolive) so I feel extremely CHEATED!!!!
