I recommend the book to everyone who has to use ASP

The most important thing about the book – it is reasonably compact. When I got an ASP.NET MVC project to support, I knew nothing about this project. The book did help me in two days. It gives you a basis to understand how to write ASP.NET MVC applications. The book has written in clear and compact way. The author describes how to route http-requests, how to establish relations between controllers and views, etc. I recommend the book to everyone who has to use ASP.NET MVC right now, but doesn’t have any knowledge about that technology

Just Barely Useful

There's just not enough depth for each topic. Otherwise it would be a good primer for getting started without having to slog through a 3 inch detailed reference on the subject. Another 40 pages would have made a big difference. I think your money is better spent elsewhere.

Worse, the author prefer coding with "Razor"

This is a simple, beginner book on learning MVC, but problem is TOO simple. Whole books has about 137 pages but there is lot of white space on each page, so the real content has only about 3/4. Another words, this book actually has 100 pages. Only touch each topic a little, not for the beginner to use. Although this book cost less but don't think is worth to buy. Worse, the author prefer coding with "Razor", not "ASPX", I have to learn new language alone with reading. Not sure why just use ASP.NET coding standard?!

I like the Youtube "[...]" better. You learn more from this video than the book.

Alan C. Acock is a sociologist and a University Distinguished Professor in the School of Social and Behavioral Health Sciences at Oregon State University. He was also recognized as the Alumni Distinguished Professor based on his work with students. He has published more than 130 articles in leading journals across the social and behavioral sciences, including Structural Equation Modeling, Psychological Bulletin, Multivariate Behavioral Research, Journal of Gerontology, Journal of Adolescence, American Journal of Public Health, American Sociological Review, Journal of Marriage and Family, Social Forces, Educational and Psychological Measurement, Journal of Politics, Prevention Science, and American Journal of Preventive Medicine. The free user manual is quite similar!

I found this to be one of the least satisfying Stata books because the author does not go much beyond the free user manual on SEM provided by Stata, which is surprisingly user-friendly. Indeed, this book is among the thinnest of the many Stata books available. Many terms and options are not described fully beyond the free manual. The index is close to being worthless. My standard for Stata books is Mitchell's, "Interpreting and Visualizing Regression," which adds a LOT to the free manual, is extremely well written and is organized in a way that anyone can easily find what they need. If you want a quick overview of SEM in Stata, this book is OK. But the free user manual in Stata is surprisingly user-friendly and is remarkably similar to this $60 book!

In a nutshell, buy this book if you want to learn about SEM. I have had several other books that my professor used as textbooks and are widely cited, but this book is by far the most helpful one. Acock foresees and explains readers' common questions/misunderstandings using very simple language. He also presents formulas and commands in a way that is easier to digest. The price is a little steep -- that's why I borrowed this book from our library. But I'm totally considering buying this book for later reference. I highly recommend this book to everyone who is interested in learning SEM using STATA.

Great book to indroduce SEM in Stata

This is a great book to introduce SEM in Stata. Great examples and easy to understand. I would rate it at beginner/intermediate. Only problem is that Stata 13 is coming out now - it will have more SEM features that won't be covered in this book.

Time Well Spent

This DIY soft cover book for dads and their daughters(although moms and boys could be involved, too!) offers a couple dozen projects ranging from science to magic to music to artistic to silly.

We have two daughters ages 7 & 10, and since I'm off on Mondays, mom takes a break, and we do Daddy-daughter day. We homeschool and always are looking for various learning activities that capture the imagination, encourage creativity and allow the children to participate wholeheartedly. This is a neat book that spells out all kinds of fun and education as well.

There's a short intro explaining the nature of making mistakes, a page for the Maker Dad Toolbox, stuff like, rat-tail file, surform shaver, pen-type soldering iron, brushes, screwdrivers, and such; however, you can pick out your project and put together your material list as needed.

He features differing degrees of difficulty(more like time involved), and gives a short talk about how the idea came to pass, a list of what's needed and a step by step guide with pictures(ours were in B&W for the advanced reading copy- not sure if they'll be in color-would be nice).

So far, the projects we've done have turned out as expected: make a antigravity jar- pretty basic magic trick requiring tape, thread, metal clip jar with lid, magnet and a pair of scissors; some woodworking tasks like making a simple "Mid-century Chair- Dad needs to do the jigsawing; make a giant bubble making wand- took a bit of work and right conditions to get it going.

These projects require, obviously, supervision, but the key, I think, is to allow the youngsters to do as much of the work as possible, which can be hard for a do-it-all dad to stand; however, it may take longer but that's more and better time spent with them.

Overall, a well laid out DIY book to entice quality fun time for parents and children together- more is needed.

Informative, but you need a deep toolkit

I was excited to get this book, because I enjoy doing little projects around the house with my daughters. And there are some really, really neat projects in here, although most are likely best for kids at least slightly older than mine. It is clearly written, with step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow, and the author's personal notes give you context for each project.

I don't think, though, that I'll be making many of the projects in the book, mostly because I don't have the tools to do so. Looking at the helpful list of tools you'll need, there are some things I'd imagine would be in every house (hammer, pushpins, scissors) and others that might not be (30-watt soldering iron, rotary cutting tool, Surform Shaver). Investing in the tools to make everything in this book is quite a big step if you're not sure you'll be able to actually execute the plans with any degree of competence, and I can see how people who aren't skilled at using the tools could be put off by that.

If you've got a ton of tools already, though, this is a great book that will give you some good ideas on things you can make with your kids.

Empowering

I loved making things with my Dad in his workshop, and it wasn't until I was a teenager that I realized how special I/he was for those experiences. Now, as a young adult, it's even clearer how stronger I am as a woman for it. There is a Verizon commercial running right now about how impressionable girls are to adult's unintentional gender-normative language around hobbies, that I think is fabulous and totally related to the goals of this book. At the end it points out that 66% of 4th grade girls like science and math, but only 18% of college engineering majors are female.

I love the activities in this book, almost as much as my husband and daughter do. They had a ball with the lunchbox guitar and have their sights set next for silk-screening. This is not the first book I have bought at the beginning of summer vacation for project ideas, but it's definitely one of the best. Another I highly suggest is The Boy Electrician. My husband had it as a kid and has recreated some of the projects with out daughter.

SHE'S MY BABY was a pretty quick but enjoyable read. Workaholic Leila Owens is the CEO of her own magazine and is very dedicated to her career. She believes that she's married to her company, and never plans on having children. Then, one day she wakes up and finds a baby in a bassinet in her kitchen! It's no surprise that the baby belongs to her sister Samantha, the black sheep of the family. Leila is angry but takes the baby, despite the fact that she has no clue what to do.

As Leila screams "SAM", her neighbor Garrick Grayson wakes up to the sounds and rushes to Leila's house to see what is the matter. Leila, who has never met Garrick in her life, is shocked to find this really good-looking man at her door. But what surprises her even more is how fast Garrick takes to baby Emma, and how good he is with her. From that moment, two new relationships are born. Emma latches on to Garrick as if he's her long lost relative, and Garrick and Leila discover one another.

The road is a bumpy one, as Leila tries to learn how to take care of a baby and focus on her career. Garrick seems to know all the tricks, and she slowly learns from the master. At the same time, the two of them get to know each other better, and the three of them seem to have become a family. Leila is very happy with the arrangement, and almost wishes that Samantha never comes back for Emma. Leila's assistant at work is even more surprised to find that her boss has suddenly become maternal.

Things seem to be going just great, but what happens if Samantha comes back for baby Emma?

This was a fast paced romance with a lot of humor and cute scenes with sweet baby Emma. It was amusing to see career-oriented Leila turn into a baby-loving mother, but it takes a lot more for Leila to admit that she wants to have children of her own and that she doesn't always want to put her career first. Author Adrianne Byrd's writing flows naturally and it's what makes the book so enjoyable. The dialogue is very realistic, and it helps move the story along at a brisk pace. The minor characters add to the story, all of them being well developed despite being secondary. The reader gets an insight into Garrick's background by watching him interact with his brother and sister-in-law, and we also get to meet his ex-wife, who plays a minor role at the end of the novel.

The reader also gets a glimpse of Leila's family, as it explains the reason why the baby is with Leila and not with sister Samantha. Three sisters, Leila, Roslyn, and Samantha have three very different lives, and had endured a lot while growing up, but now it is Samantha that needs the most help, as she runs away from one disaster after another. Not much is told exactly what misadventures she has had, but it is plain that she is the black sheep, and Roslyn and Leila have given up on her. But they don't want baby Emma to suffer because of her mother. Emma makes for one very cute and lovable baby, as everyone succumbs to her charms. She also is a great reason for Garrick and Leila to get together, even though it's only to baby sit.

SHE'S MY BABY was a very refreshing romance that focused on humor, as well as the old adage "opposites attract". Readers will find the scenes with Emma, Garrick and Leila charming. The author does a great job with writing descriptive scenes, and will not find it difficult to imagine the thrown oatmeal, the dirty smelly diapers, or the giggling Emma in the midst of all the chaos. Ain't she the cutest little doll. I won't her...Okay back to the book. This was the sweetest story that touched several emotions. My heart went out to Leila and Garrick. At times I laughed, felt the frustration, hopelessness, and certainly the attraction and love between this couple. Page turner and an easy great read.

Only believe

I was quickly drawn to this book due to the raw gut truth. The authur in these books was truely ordained by God Himself, and you can feel the Spirit of the Most High talking through him in every chapter you read. But I must warn you not to bite off more than you can chew on a daily basis, because of the spiritual strength that you'll get behind reading this book. I'd like to suggest that you read a chapter at a time, so that you give God room in your spirit to allow what He placed in motion to come to past in your life. So, you can expect to read about a chapter per week. Give or take. I will say this: this reading will truely bless you soo much that you'll want to know more...

You have to read it!! Great
