About the Author
Dennis Rodman is a seven-time NBA rebounding champion. The 44-year-old now makes his home in Huntington Beach, California, where he lives with his wife and two children. He has earned a total of five NBA championships rings in his 14-year career: 1989 and '90 with the Detroit Pistons and 1996, '97, and '98 with the Chicago Bulls. He has also been named Defensive Player of the Year twice (1990, '91); All-NBA Third Team twice (1992, '95); All-Defensive First Team seven times (1989, '90, '91, '92, '93, '95, '96); and an NBA All-Star twice (1990, '92). In over 900 career NBA games, he has averaged more than seven points and 13 rebounds a game. Timeline of the rise and fall of one of NBA's greatest. The moral of the story is the dangers of fame-- this completes the tale of one exceedingly dramatic rise and fall from way too high.
Reality Check: fame sucks.
In other news: language easily accessible, a quick, enjoyable easy read. Book in decent condition after library life.

What a fun book! Rodman has always been colorful, but this book allows you to step into his mind, and try to understand where he is coming from when he does all his crazy stuff. Very entertaining- you do not have to be a basketball fan to enjoy this book. His "reality checks" are worth the price of the book.

Concise, readable design guide suitable for beginners.

Unlike many of the current micro-controller texts currently available which extoll the history of the technology and earlier (re. out of date information), this text is refreshingly to the point. It focuses on current PIC controllers (could use an addendum for newest additions) and current interface components such as rotary encoders and LCD displays suitable for low cost design. Additionally, instead of the classical approach to assembly language pedagogy, the text instead, takes a template approach in which the requirements of simple PIC microprograms are developed first and then more complex techniques are introduced. Several examples are presented towards the end of the text -- but the exposition does not rest on these cases. It is firmly based on practical design partitioning and accommodation of constraints. Overall, the best of the several PIC texts and indeed, several microcontroller texts I have reviewed.

An excellent introduction, text, and reference

I recommend this book without qualification! After a disappointing encounter with the popular Predko book, I bought John Peatman's book sight unseen. I was not disappointed. This book has strong content, writing, and organization. It supplies all the information I needed to get started and it moves smoothly to advanced programming and applications. The only surprise, after Predko's book, was that Peatman focuses on the larger packages, with no mention of the 18- and 8-pin devices; however, since the features of the larger devices are a superset of the smaller devices, it is easy to understand (and use) the smaller devices using this text. Peatman covers all the advances peripheral interface features of the high-end PICs. Although I am not using such features today, I am happy to have a well-written and thorough reference in my possession. An excellent book!

It is not ment to be a "PIC for dummies" Book

I took Dr. Peatman's class in college with this book, and I think this book would have done better if he had bundled the Class Lab book. The class lab book and actually having the hardware in front of you made the book make a whole lot more sense. I can see how some of the other readers may have been disappointed because with out the hardware in front of you its a bit difficult to really understand whats going on. I think this book is great as a reference if you have a PIC controller to play around with, but I would not recommend this book to some one who is looking for a "PIC microprocessors for Dummies" type book.

Getting technical about non-technical skills

Following the introduction, the book is structured around chapters on 7 'non-technical' (i.e. human factors related) skills. These are: situational awareness, decision making, communications, team working, leadership, managing stress and coping with fatigue. There are then 3 more general chapters on identifying, training and assessing non-technical skills. The examples used are mostly from aviation, offshore and surgery. There are extensive bibliographies after each chapter. While covering some complex subjects the writing style is very accessible.

I'm using this for a man introductory college course, although it is a bit too complex for the course

I purchased a couple of books to use in a freshman level college course I was teaching that I had to completely revamp due to programmatic changes to the course (formerly Intro to Comp & Lit II, now Comp II), and this was one of the texts I chose to use. Instead of a focus on literature itself and writing about literature, the course now needs to focus on the types of writing (beyond the simple modes focused on in Comp I) ones does in college. I chose this book because of its focus on a higher level of argument and analysis than the first part of the sequence focuses on, with the bonus that I could still incorporate literature, essays, and film. It was a good choice on that level, but the actual text is, in hindsight, a bit too complicated for a freshman intro course on writing. Nothing wrong with the book--the 3 stars are more for how it relates to the content I needed for the course. I will keep using it, though, until I can find something less complicated for an Intro to Comp course since it's so difficult to find a text that students don't have to skip meals to afford. A good value for students.

small town big city crime

I couldn't wait to read this book ,not just because I got a advanced readers copy for free,in exchange for an honest review...but because this book was done in a different way of writing. This story was written by 2 authors together,and I had my doubts if it would work...well guess what? This story caught my attention from the very first pages,talking about "the incident" as the couple are driving to a new city,to start their lives over again,... This set the tone for the rest of the story. Annabeth and Marcus relocate to a small town in Texas thinking that small towns were quiet little places,where nothing exciting ever happens...but soon learn that even small towns can hold big secrets and have big city crimes...as they appear to be a normal happy couple on the outside,things take a turn for the scary surprising adventure...but can this couple handle it? Can they learn from their past mistakes,and can they recover and survive as they are falling deeper into the mystery ??? The ending has such a cliffhanger,leaving you feel so drained from the excitement of reading that you, as I, could not put the book down!!!!!! So can't wait for book 2 so I can continue the adventure.

Storm, Hodge, & a Tiny Taste of Texas---Perfect!

Walker Texas Wife is a quick read with just the right mix of intrigue and fun. I was impressed with the characters and how distinct their personalities were. As the mystery unfolds, so do the layers of their lives. And woven into all of that is a tiny taste of Texas. Storm and Hodge are a perfect blend. They have carefully presented several important topics in the process of telling the story. They made me laugh. They made me cry. They left me satisfied and hungry for more. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I hope they write another series together after this one.

I received a free e-copy of WTW in exchange for an honest review. Honestly, I had already pre-ordered the book, so I would have read it and left a review anyway. I truly enjoyed this book.

Great New Series!!!

First, I would like to thank both Melissa Storm and K.M. Hodge for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Melissa Storm has done it again and brought her readers a new great series!! However, this time she has a new partner and crime helping her out! K.M Hodge and Melissa Storm make an amazing team on this book! Walker Texas Wife is the first book in the Book Cellar Mysteries. If the rest of the series is as good as their debut novel-I will a very happy girlie!

Each character brings something unique and different to the story line. You either love or annoyed by the character (for me that would be Brooke). However, each of them is very likeable and has their own story to tell.

This book has a little bit of everything from mystery, lots comical lines, very nosey neighbors, betrayal, new neighbors, infertility, temptation of a past love, secrets, etc.
