In particular I found, how a subject should be explained to appeal to the practicing engineer to demonstrate that his practical problem can indeed be solved with engineering methods. This experience is reflected in the presenta­ tions in this book. Sufficient background is provided for an understanding of the issues, but pragamatism prevails. Mathematics cannot be avoided, but they are presented in a way that appeals to insight and intuition, in lieu of formal derivations which would show but the mathematical skill of the writer.

It was 15 years a go that I got this book as a part of a lecture by Dr. Broek. Over the years I have come across many books on this subject. I have to admit that this book is one of the best introductory material written on DTA. There are other books with probably additional data, however, what separates this book fom the rest, is Broek's ability to write in a coherent and easy to follow format.
Unfortunately, since the book is not in print the price is a bit too steep for a new copy.
Also try "Structural Life Assessment Methods" by "Liu" - sold through ASM.

Fine Case Studies to Supplement Your Studies in Operations

This is a book of case studies that we used as one of our textbooks in the core Operations Management course that I took as part of getting my MBA at the University of Michigan Business School. I found the book very useful and am glad that we used it. Our texts were this book, a coursepack of other case studies and readings, and Ravi Anupinidi's (et al) "Managing Business Process Flows".
This is a book of ten case studies along with case questions and supplementary mini cases. Like all books that are compilations of case studies, they are of somewhat limited value to those who are trying to learn the field. It is hard to know what you should be getting out of the case studies without the guidance of a skilled professor.
But these cases have good illustrations, helpful questions, and they offer a broad spectrum of business processes such as continuous flow, job shop, batch flow, combined, and so on. It includes service, retail, and project management. There is a lot here to think about and discuss. If you have some experience with Operations Management and you want some more reading and you understand the purpose of case studies, this can be a good book to read. But it is better as a textbook in a classroom setting with a skilled teacher as a guide.
If you are seeking a beginning text that will explain the field and guide you through the important principles involved in Operations Management, a book of case studies, which this book is, is not appropriate. Although, if you are reading such a text and want supplementary material with a practical bent to it in order to give you some food for thinking about the principles you are learning, this book would be a great source for such material.

Steve Lillis is a professional pool player, college professor, and missionary evangelist. Steve has been ranked among the top pool players in the world at various times during his billiard career and he is an Adjunct Professor of English holding two undergraduate degrees, a masters degree, and a Bible diploma. Quick and exciting page turner

It's amazing to read about the twists and turns that have occurred in Steve's life. God has used him to do so many great things, and it has apparently been quite the journey to get where he is now. The book is a quick read, but well worth it. You won't want to put it down.

If God can use Pool, he can use you.

Having worked with Steve Lillis in ministry twice, I got the privilege to see the Gospel Trick Shot ministry in action before this book was written. And it was my encounter with him that steered me on the path that I am on now. But You Must! is a story that will impact people of all walks of life. It is not just a story of a sports legend who turned to the dark side and came back. It is a story that the every day person will relate to. The struggles Steve went through are very similar to the struggles many others go through. And through his platform of pool, Steve can reach those people from the church pew-sitter to the pool hall regular. And this story is not finished yet. I cannot recommend this book enough. It has further confirmed my need to pursue the one thing that made Steve and I connect for the first time. In the same way Steve uses pool trick shots to share the Gospel of Christ, God has directed me to use the sport of fencing to do the same thing. I have yet to go out as far as Steve has nationally or internationally, but through Steve, God has directed my fencing ministry from a mere idea to more of a concrete concept and there is so much more to come. Read this book and let God speak to you on how he can use your talents for something far bigger and far greater than you can imagine.

Thought-provoking and encouraging!

I usually read several books at a time, switching back and forth depending upon my mood. However, when I picked up Steve's book, I couldn't put it down. So much of what's in this book resonates with the struggles and the compromises and the questions that so many of us have had at one time or another--in our relationships, in our careers, in our finances, and in our search for "the way"-- but it's Steve's raw honesty about it all that makes it real and causes it to hit home.

The stories of his pool hustling days were, at times, gripping; and at other times, a costly reality check, that caused collateral damage in his relationships and family. Steve's persevering journey of sorting through the turmoil and dedicating himself to finding the Lord's Will for his life is both encouraging and inspirational. It's also a reminder that when we choose to follow the Lord, all of our troubles do not disappear. Although we are forgiven, we still have to deal with the consequences of our past decisions, but as long as we stay focused on the Lord, He will guide us and strengthen us and bring us peace. Restoration is possible--over and over and over again.

Kudos to Devra Robledo for transcribing Steve's story and penning such a superb book!

As far as I'm concerned, this book is a masterpiece! An absolute MUST to read, to own and to utilise on a daily basis.

What I love about this second book of Christa Mackinnon’s, is how she has taken an incredibly deep, complex and long-practised subject: Shamanism and has translated it into a piece of writing that is clear, concise and easy to read and understand, even for those who are completely new to the subject matter. I loved her first book: ‘Shamanism and Spirituality in Therapeutic Practice’, however, this one comes at it from a very different perspective: that of incorporating some of the shamanic practices into one’s everyday life.
It is not about how to become a shaman, as that is a lifetime’s work and very specific and does not fit the western world (apart from a very few people), rather it is about how to use some of the ‘tools’ and ‘ways’ of the shaman to enable a deeper, richer, more spiritual way of life; how to understand oneself better, and more; how to encourage self healing and inner strength; how to find the support and guidance of power animals and spirit guides; how to ‘let go’ of those things we cling to, once we recognise the harm they can do us; how to bring in new ways of ‘seeing’ things and so on. It’s all there in this book. In some ways it’s a little like a recipe book: firstly, Christa notes what you are aiming to achieve; she then gives you examples (for clarity) and the method to achieve it and finally there is the outcome and any little ‘pitfalls’ that may arise along the way and how to deal with them.
This is no mean task. To have written on a subject that could fill volumes, condense it right down into simplistic, meaningful and understandable chapters, with easy instructions on how to go about the various techniques and practices, is an absolute art in itself. As far as I’m concerned, this book is a masterpiece! An absolute MUST to read, to own and to utilise on a daily basis.

I LOVE it!! For me this is the best book on Shamanism and I have been involved in shamanism for over 25 years. It is so clear and so very well written! I think it is the best book on the introduction to Shamanism.The Spirit dwells within. What a great present for those interested in shamanism or many who will be as a result of this lovely book! I will be ordering it for many of my friends who are interested in the subject but do not know where to start. The book contains very practical 'how to" : build an altar and create a sacred space, create ceremonies, contact with power animals, ancestors and a lot more. I have just received a new copy in the post for my daughter Chrisitine - she is young but has already made big strides on her medicine wheel and I know that she will love Christa Mackinnon's book.
